52. Celebrating The Sun On Kashid Beach

The weather here is fast warming up, so we thought we should spend a couple of days on the beach, before it gets too hot, and celebrate the Sun God who incidentally is cooling off at an alarming pace. Kashid is one of the nearest white sand beaches to Pune. But the GPS decided to give us a long drive through the lesser frequented trail via the Phansad forest and Rajeev got a chance to recount the anecdotes of our wonderful stay in the sanctuary. So we did the 4 hour trip in a leisurely 5 hours, taking a break in between. Chetali also learnt to handle an automatic car and drove the not so smooth last leg of the journey. We found a hotel at a walking distance from the beach and we wasted no time in exploring it, after lunch at the hotel itself. I will take you through a photo journey mostly because each of us wielding a camera went our way searching for our favourite sights on the beach while Chetali went to each one saying "take my picture, take my picture"😊.

Didi captured the Duke's nose from the car window enroute

In their element!

A horse rueing his fate 😪 Sad how we treat our animals

Rajeev is fascinated by the sea's artistry on the sand and came back with some fantastic images of both human and nature producing inadvertent works of art which are both as fleeting and as abiding as time itself.

A clean slate is beautiful too!

Pebbles on the shore

Amazing feat!! Tip-toes!!

Soon the drama and the pomp and show of the Sun bidding good-night commenced and we sat mesmerized by the spectacle unfolding.

The next morning we were up at 5.30 rearing to go to the beach before the crack of dawn but our efforts were thwarted by the locked gates of the hotel. Good security should be commended but Didi and Chetali could barely contain their impatience. Anyway someone opened the gate well in time and we made our way to the beach looking lovely and beckoning in the soft morning light.

We couldn't have jumped that gate!

A Hermit crab caught unawares with nowhere to hide!!

Om Suryaya Namah! Salutations to the dispeller of all darkness.

Undaunted!
After breakfast we started back this time via Alibagh. The Alibagh beach was inundated at this time of day and was as chaotic as Kashid was serene. Almost half the return trip is through the Expressway so we reached back well within four hours.

    1. Rajeev Prasad : It indeed is, GK. There were some 10 castles which I photographed, but all made by the same youngster. He was very fascinated by sand sculptures and he shared that sand castles were his favourite occupation.

"I do not know if you have made or observed someone make घरौंदा just before Diwali and then putting some earthen lamps on it during our childhood days. Children used to put lot of creative ideas and features into it those days. I have not seen anyone make one in the last 30 or 40 years."

"Great capture, I remember whenever sand comes for new construction in sixties and seventies we used to dig sand and make caves when it is thick with water.at a time I remember 25 to 20 children busy in sand and trying making caves and domes from it. Great of u to recall this sand activity and yes rightly stated by boss G.K. The making of mud houses with Windows and doors was a great activity in almost every house on Diwalee. This mental exercise is now missing totally. But we still getting excited with these thoughts which remind us of the peace and tranquility we used to get from these activities in those days.

    1. Rajeev Prasad: Just came back (04.02.18). Remembered the excellent trip we had with you and Dennis. The beach shack where we had lunch at Kashid Beach. The sea-shells that kept getting smashed on the rocks etc.etc. The white-bellied sea eagle. The GPS took us trough the other side of the Phansad Bird sanctuary. It still looks very much the same. The Beach though has become more crowded and not as "pristine" as we had seen it so many years ago.
